Introduction
Having already squeezed some more horsepower out of the VQ35HR with AEM’s dual intake system and a Bassani after-cat exhaust, we were looking for something a bit more drastic this time. After hearing nothing but praise for their services, we decided to take our Z to Technosquare, a company that offers ECU flash reprogramming of flash-type Nissan ECUs for racing applications and performance enthusiasts.
One of the things we were concerned about when we first discussed reflash options with Technosquare was the warranty coverage that we still had on our ’07 Z. While any sort of ECU reflash would void the warranty on paper—technically speaking, of course—Technosquare assured us that in the unlikely event of any warranty issues, our car could be flashed back to stock form, thus avoiding any potential pitfalls with the dealer. Conclusion
Driving our ’07 Z after utilizing Technosquare’s impressive ECU tuning services yielded the most substantial seat-of-the-pants improvement in overall driveability and fun factor to date. With the increased horsepower and torque numbers and improved throttle response, our Z was zipping through the gears with more freedom than ever before. Perhaps most noticeable was the improved throttle response, as we simply mashed the throttle and the car took off. The increased rev limiter setting didn’t necessarily yield an improvement in power, but it was nice to have a little extra room up top for those who shift right at 7500 in their HRs. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to test the new speed governor setting, as past experience has told us that without forced induction our VQ35HR takes a bit of time and quite a long stretch of road to get from about 140 to 155. We can’t imagine getting from 155 to whatever the power/aero limitation of our Z currently is without a completely closed down stretch of highway or taking the car out to the salt flats or any one of the proving grounds around So Cal. That being said, we couldn’t be happier with the ECU tune that Technosquare performed, and with warranty coverage being a non-issue, there are no downfalls whatsoever to utilizing their services. Even for those not in So Cal, its mail-in reflash options draw from a comprehensive database of existing platforms and modifications, and owners can be assured that their reflash will still generate significant performance improvements.
