2009 Mitsubishi Evo X - No '09 Evo?
Rumors abound about the fate of the Lancer Evolution. The genesis of the banter is the hype around there being no '09 model, per se. This is a case where the basic facts are correct, but the conclusions being drawn are wrong.
"Actually, there is nothing too dire here for the EVO X's future," says Moe Durand, manager of product PR at Mitsubishi. He told us the '08 EVOs were late introductions in the model year (March for GSR and July for MR). With the '09 Lancer EVO slated to go on sale in February 2009 and the '10 model intro moved up to late summer/fall 2009, there is hardly a model year to be had in 2009.
So the decision was made to scuttle the shortened '09 model once it was determined that given the current economic situation Mitsubishi would have enough '08 EVOs to meet the demand.
The '10 EVO X will have a few enhancements (none that Mitsubishi would share with us at this time) and will hit showrooms by fall of this year. So relax out there, the EVO will be boosting with us well into the next decade.
